ah christmas time

I celebrated Christmas yesterday with my mom's side of the family. Christmas 2007 is officially over. It was a good time. It always amazes me how vastly different Christmas is between my dad's side and my mom's side of the family.

My dad's family is rather conservative, and everyone is very polite. Before dinner, we always pray. We all gather around in a room and stare at our hands while the host (it always seems to be the male's job to pray) thanks the good lord for blessing us with food and prays that our troops do their job and are kept safe. Then we eat and converse about jobs, remodeling homes, church trips, and other fun things like that. After dinner we exchange gifts and play organized games.

My mom's family, on the other hand, is conservative in more of a red-neck kind of way. You know the kind, they talk dirty and tell jokes, but god-forbid we let those democrats in the white house, and "faggot" is the favored insult to toss around. We never pray, we load our plates with the traditional Christmas food, and drink a beer. Dinner conversation consists of sex talk and chats about drinking too much and curing hangovers. Then, after dinner, we gather round to open gifts, continue drinking beer, and talk of getting drunk and laid.

It doesn't seem to matter how vastly different my families are. I feel somewhat out of place and uncomfortable in both settings. However, I love both families for who the are, but by the end of the day, I couldn't be more happy to return home to my liberal friends, curl up on the couch and watch logo.

computer update

I take back my old post about my old computer. I love my new MacBook Pro. It does everything my old Powerbook did and more! It has the newest version of iPhoto, iMovie, and iWeb, it has photobooth and frontrow. Plus all it took to get my songs and files from my old computer was a simple connection of a firewire cable. Yay for the genius of macintosh :)

tattoo?

I've never really been a big fan of tattoos. I think it has something to do with my grandma's tattoo. When she was sixteen she got a heart with her initials and my grandpa's initials on her shoulder. When I was younger, she kept it covered with a band-aide due to embaressment over the bleeding lines. However, ever since my grandfather passed away she has kept the band-aide off and will proudly display it for anyone who asks.

Now, tattoos are becoming more and more popular, but I'm still a bit unsure. I mean this is something that will literally be on your body until you are +86 years old, so it really better mean something to you. I have so many friends out there who are getting tattoos left and right without so much of a second thought. With shows like Miami ink, LA ink, and London ink catching my attention with their amazing tattoo artists, it makes me wonder that if I had a chance for an amazing artist to do a tattoo for me, would I get one? and if so, what would it be?

new computer

I'm getting a brand new, shinny, MacBook Pro for graduation/Christmas/birthday. Yay!

So, if I am getting this brand new, awesome computer, is it strange for me to be sad to be giving up my current laptop? I mean, I have so many memories with my worn PowerBook G4. I have created so many things with this baby, from my first poorly designed poster to my entire senior show. She holds my entire collection of music from the Spice Girls, to Rilo Kiley, to oldies, to show tunes, and not to mention a lengthy collection of podcasts. This computer discovered "the planet" and has navigated me through many a website, and introduced me to the wonderful world of gmail. But, like with all things in life, sometimes we must move on. My brand new, shinny, MacBook Pro can do all that and more with a battery life that doesn't die the second the power-cord comes out.

I'll miss you PowerBook, you will always be my first mac, and I will forever love you for it.

da vinci

I'm in love. Sometimes, when I'm feeling down, I like to go to the humane society and walk dogs. A few weeks ago I walked a little dog named DaVinci. He was a long haired dachshund, which normally I don't find dachshunds to be very cute, but this little guy made me fall in love. He was adorable and wouldn't walk when we were in the grass. Now, if only my landloards would let me get a dog...
