Yesterday evening I got a call from a friend who recently moved to the city the same weekend I did. She said to me "did you hear? 7 tornados hit Kearney about 30 minutes ago" I freaked out for a second then got on the phone desperately trying to reach my parents and friends who still live in the town I have called home for 23 years of my life. I couldn't get through to anyone for awhile, but eventually reached my dad. I eventually got ahold of all of my friends who still live there, and everyone is okay.
Apparently a storm cell produced a tornado that touched down at least 6 times. It destroyed town landmarks such as the drive-in theater where I used to spend summer nights watching movies with all my friends camped out in lawn chairs in front of the car. My good friend's apartment building that he just moved into was destroyed, the roof was ripped off and cars were pilled on top of cars in the parking lot.
The storm moved along the interstate, hitting many small towns in it's path. It was fairly strong until it reached Omaha, but dissipated right before it would've hit us. I've been in shock looking at all the pictures from the storm. You never think something like that will happen where you live. I'm just so glad that everyone is okay. I'm ready to pack up and move out of tornado alley now!

rilo kiley & other summer concerts
The Rilo Kiley concert on Tuesday was amazing! Better than I could've possibly imagined. Jenny Lewis is so friggin' talented.
During the song "Absence of God" she forgot the lyrics, and had to ask the audience to help her remember them. It was funny and a little priceless moment. Anyway I had a great time, and would love to have gone again on Wednesday, but sadly I have a life, and had to get back to K-town.
Here are some photos from the concert:

Next up on my summer concert agenda: Brandi Carlile :)
